Gizmo5 has connections using VOIP (voice over IP) to many carriers. Our servers are programmed to identify backdoor dialing calls by their special prefix and transmit them over VOIP. This bypasses the traditional phone network and the associated toll charges making the call free to the caller. If a telephone number is part of our program there is no charge to call it.

Additionally, once you call a number using the Backdoor Dialing program, the person you called can call you back directly on your computer, by simply dialing the Caller ID number they see when you called them. Their call will only cost the price of a local phone call and they�ll be able to call you anytime you�re logged into Gizmo5, on any computer, anywhere in the world!

This is a new and experimental program. Consequently we do not have all of the numbers for some of the carriers included in the program. Carriers often have different technology for different areas where they do business.

This will work for both landline and mobile numbers and you do not have to change your telephone number.

Backdoor dialing is available for personal and business calling. There are no restrictions on who can call.

Because backdoor dialing is bypassing the traditional phone network and taking a more direct route via VOIP you will often get higher quality calls than you normally experience.

We are launching the program with US numbers only but hope to expand it to international numbers in the middle of 2008. If you are a registered Gizmo5 user you will receive email when we expand the program to your country.

Using Gizmo5 software on any Mac/Win/Lin computer simply dial the prefix 0101 and then the desired telephone number. For example, 0101 + 858-555-1212

Calls are not restricted by region so you can place calls to backdoor numbers from anywhere on the internet whether inside the US or outside.

Yes. If you have a Nokia wifi phone such as the N80, N95, or e61i you can use backdoor dialing. You will need to download Gizmo software on your device. You may also us a SIP based ATA using the Gizmo5 or SIPphone network. Just connect your device to the network with a valid Gizmo5 account and dial 0101 + 10 digit US number.

Normally there is a per minute fee for all connected phone calls to traditional 10 digit numbers. Even if you pay a flat fee per month to your phone company that money is used to pay the per minute fee. With backdoor dialing we are bypassing those fees and the prefix instructs the call routing system to only use VOIP to connect the call.

Because these calls are VOIP calls they do not have the costs associated with phone calls historically. They are more like an email message or instant messaging transmission on the internet for which there is no cost beyond that of your internet connection.

Backdoor dialing is an experimental program. But if the response is positive our intention is to continue the program into the future and expand it to wider coverage in the United States and include international numbers as well.

No. We would like to include Vonage numbers, but our networks are not connected at this time. If you're a Vonage customer, ask them to connect to our network and all their numbers would be included in our program.

Yes. We are adding carriers or expanding coverage on a constant basis. So even if your number is not listed check back periodically. If you work for a carrier who would like to have telephone numbers in your network included in this program please contact us.

Not at this time. Calls can only be initiated from a PC or SIP calling device to a mobile or landline. In mid-2008 we plan on expanding so that VOIP connected telphone numbers can call a PC anywhere in the world.
