Linksys Wi-Fi Phone Setup and Free Calling




Now with a Linksys Wireless-G IP phone you can make calls over the Gizmo Network without being tied to your computer. Use your Wireless-G network to connect and enjoy effortless VoIP calling.



There are 2 steps required to set up your WiFi phone, with several sub-steps. It may look daunting at first, but we're here to help walk you through.

Step 1: Set up your WiFi connection
Step 2: Set up your SIPphone account

Before you get started you will need the following information.
WiFi connection Information
SSID:
Network Key:
Security Type:
* Open
* WEP 64
* WEP 128
* WPA PSK TKIP
* WPA PSK AES
* WPA TKIP PEAP
SIP account Information
SIP number: (found in your Gizmo5 profile)
Password: (exactly as typed in Gizmo5)
SIP Domain: proxy01.sipphone.com
SIP Address: 198.65.166.131

Note: if you don't have a SIP number or Password visit gizmoproject.com/newuser to get one.

Note: You can determine your network security type by viewing your wireless computer's current Wifi settings or your Wireless Router/Access point settings


Step 1: Setup your Wifi Connection:

Follow the steps below to setup your wireless network using the information from above.

  1. Press the Menu softkey, Go to Profile by navigating up or down using the joystick Press the Select softkey to enter the Profile settings.
  2. Upon entering the Profile the device Will prompt for a new password to be created. This password is only to restrict access to the Wifi Settings. Enter the password and press the OK softkey. Note: Make sure you have the correct text entry mode for each text field, the only two options are ABC or 1-9.
  3. Enter Profile again and enter the newly created password when prompted and press the OK softkey. Note: To select lower case characters press the appropriate key (X + 1) times to get to the first lower case character of that key, where X equals the number of characters on that key. To get to the next lowercase characters on that key, you would simply press the key again
  4. Select Network Profile and press the Select softkey to set up your Wireless connection.
  5. Select the Profile named with your specific WiFi network security type from the list provided and press Option softkey.
  6. Select Edit and press the Select softkey.
  7. Select Wireless Settings and press the Select softkey.
  8. Select ESSID and press the Select softkey then Select Site Survey and press the Select softkey.
  9. Select your preferred wifi connection and press the Set softkey, now we will set the Network Key to your selected Wifi connection.
  10. Press the Back softkey to return to the Wireless menu Screen then Select Security and press the Select softkey.
  11. Select your specific WiFi network security type from the list if it is not selected already and press the Set softkey. Note: The WiFi security type may already be selected depending on the profile you selected, if that is the case do not change those settings and press the set softkey on each check mark until you get to the key prompt.
  12. Enter your network key (case sensitive) as indicated and press the Ok softkey. The STUN settings are next.
  13. Press the "Back" softkey until you return to the "Edit Profile Options" menu screen.
  14. Select "NAT Solution" and press the "Select" softkey.
  15. Select the "STUN Address" and press the "Select" softkey. Enter stun01.sipphone.com (lowercase) for this setting and press the "OK" softkey. The STUN Port 3478 default setting can remain as is.
  16. Press the "Back" softkey until you return to the "Profile" menu screen.
Step 2: Setup your SIPphone Account:

Follow the steps below to setup your wireless network using the information from above.

  1. You will need a Gizmo5 account to setup this phone. This will enable you to have all incoming calls ring both your computer and your wifi phone simultaneously. If you do not have a Gizmo5 account then download it from here and follow the installations and setup steps.
  2. From the Profile menu screen, select SIP Account and press the Select Soft key.
  3. Select the default SIP Account and press the Option softkey then select Edit and press the Select softkey.
  4. Select Phone Number and press the Select softkey, enter your SIP number and press the OK softkey. Your SIP number is an 11 digit number beginning with 1747. If you already use Gizmo5 then you already have a SIP number and you should use that same number so any calls you get will ring your wifi handset. To locate your SIP number open Gizmo5 and select the "Home" tab. Then click "Edit My Profile" and your SIP number will be displayed. Note: Include only the 11 digit number portion.
  5. Select Auth ID and press the Select softkey, enter your SIP number and press the OK softkey. You will need to press the "ABC" softkey to toggle the phone into number entry mode. Then enter your 11 digit SIP number from the previous step and press the "OK" softkey.
  6. Select Auth Password (case sensitive) and press the Select softkey, enter your password and press the OK softkey. . This is the same password you use for Gizmo5. Be sure and enter it in exactly as you do on Gizmo5. If you have forgotten your password then go here.
  7. Select SIP Domain and press the Select softkey, enter proxy01.sipphone.com and press the OK softkey.
  8. Select Proxy Address and press the Select softkey, then press the "IP" softkey which will toggle you to text entry mode. Enter 198.65.166.131 (lower case, the * will create a period) and press the OK softkey.
  9. Press the Back softkey until you return to the Main Phone screen.



You will need to power cycle the device after all the settings are in place in order for the phone to register properly. If you have configured your phone correctly, you will see the SSID (network name) followed by your 11 digit SIP number on the Main Screen a few moments after the phone has booted up. To place a test call, dial 1747474ECHO.

If you have configured your phone correctly, you will see the SSID followed by your SIP number on the Main Screen.
